Fairview School Board Briefs For February 25, 2002

The Fairview Board of School Directors held its regular public meeting on

February 25, 2002, and took action on the following matters:

 

·                    Accepted the minutes of  the  public board meeting held on 1/28/02

 

·                    The treasurer’s report for January, 2002, was approved.

 

·                    Bills payable and payroll for February 2002, were approved

 

·                    Approved to authorize the solicitor to intervene in the National City Bank assessment appeal on behalf of the district and further authorized the solicitor to retain the services of Assessment Evaluation, Inc. to perform an appraisal of the National City Bank branch office located at 3911 Avonia Road at a cost of $750

 

*          The administration reviewed our present graduation requirements (course credits). It is recommended that we increase the social studies requirement from 4 credits to 4.5 credits.  Students will be required to attain 4 credits in science and 4 credits in math and 2 foreign language credits for all college prep students and above.  These requirements would begin for the class of 2005.  Administrative Procedure 217.4 has been revised to reflect these changes and will be posted in all buildings to be presented for board approval at the March 18 public board meeting.

 

·                    Home schooling policies 122, 123, 127 were approved. These policies would allow home schooled students/charter/private  to participate in district after-school activities. 

 

·                    Approved field trips for grades 5/6 and 7/8 as part of  the K.A.T.I.E. program at Garwood

 

·                    Approved budgetary transfers

 

·                    Approved the fall sports supplies bids

 

·                    Approved facility requests

 

·                    Approved the spring schedule of the Fairview Parks & Recreation Authority

 

·                    Approved to appoint Urban Engineers to finish the work on the storm water management plan and approved $5,000 ($10,000 total with $5,000 to be paid by the township) toward this project to be paid from the General Fund Account as part of the district’s commitment to  the project.

 

*            Approved for the administration to develop specs and to advertise for bids for the repair of the elevator at FHS

 

·                    Approved the list of personnel matters and substitute addendums

 

·                    Approved for final candidates for positions in the Fairview School District be

given the Guilford-Zimmerman assessment test at a cost of $l75 per person to be completed on line at the C.A.B.

 

·                    Approved for the establishment of one head coach for boys’ and girls’ track at a salary of $4,774 and one assistant head coach at $2,700, but will continue to have four assistant coaches at the same salaries of $2,486

 

·                    Approved to establish a 7th and 8th grade girls’ interscholastic volleyball team starting in the spring of 2002

 

·                    Presented for first reading was a new policy pertaining to administrative interns which will be posted in all buildings for staff input.

 

·                     

·                    The public is invited to attend all board meetings – upcoming meetings:

 

March 11 – Committee of the Whole followed by small meetings at 6:30 p.m. at FES

 

March 18– Public Board Meeting at 7:30 p.m. at FES
