BRIEFS
The Fairview Board of School Directors held
its regular public meeting on
May 24, 2006, and took action on the
following matters:

Accepted the minutes of April 24, 2006, and May 8, 2006
·
Approved the budgetary transfers
·
Approved the Treasurer’s Report for April, 2006
·
Approved the bills payable and payroll through May
19, 2006
·
Accepted the resignation letter from Sheila
Brugger
·
Approved the list of service providers for 2006/07
per School Code of PA
·
Approved the 2006/07 Budget in the amount of
$18,569,000. Said
budget will be financed in part by a Real Estate Tax of 16.745
mills ($1.67 per $100) of assessed value of real property levied
under authority of the Public School Code of 1949, as revised,
an Occupational Privilege Tax of $10 per person, and a 1% Income
Tax levied under the School Code of Pennsylvania, as amended,
and a 1% Realty Transfer Tax levied under the second class
township Municipality Code as amended.
The Occupational Privilege Tax is authorized under Act
511.

Approved the board resolution authorizing the
issuance of General Obligation Bonds, Refunding Series of 2006,
for the purpose of an advance refunding of a portion of the
School District’s General Obligation Bonds, Series B of 2001
·
Approved the Tiger Pride Recognition Program,
which is financially supported by the three school booster
groups, at no cost to the district except time/labor performed
by our maintenance crew for some installation
·
Approved to hire Erik Kincade as Director of
Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment, at a salary of $92,000
for the 2006/07 school year with fringe benefits provided in
accordance with the Administrative Compensation Plan.
Any time worked during June, 2006, will be paid at the
daily rate of $353.85.

Approved the high school diploma list with the
understanding that the students listed have met the graduation
requirements as set by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the
Fairview School District by June 9, 2006
·
Approved the IDEA Notice of Adoption of Policies,
Procedures and Use of Funds by a School District per the
attachment
·
Approved to conduct a high school and middle
school summer school program at Fairview High School
·
Approved the job description for an elementary
teacher for the extended school year program and to post this
job description
·
Approved the Wellness Policy (to be posted on the
district web site)
·
Appointed the firm of Felix & Gloekler, P.C.
as the local auditors for the 2005/06 year-end audit at an
annual rate of $13,300
·
Approved to lease from Pitney Bows the DM500 mail
machine with attachments and software at a cost of $173 per
month for a 60-month period effective June 1, 2006
·
Approved the signatories and depositories for the
district accounts
·
Appointed Laurel Capital as lessor to refinance
the existing Laurel Capital Technology Lease with annual debt
service not to exceed $112,629 (option #3) over a four-year
period with a rate of 4.486% and to provide funding for
technology equipment for the 2006/07 school year per the
attached analysis and proposal
·
Approved to purchase technology equipment in an
amount not to exceed $100,000 using the technology lease
proceeds as per the attached schedule
·
Amended the 2005/06 budget to add revenue of
$4,904.88 from the Pennsylvania Special Education Extraordinary
Expense Fund and further, to approve budgeted expenditures in
the same amount to be used for assistive technology equipment
·
Approved to purchase two 72 passenger buses from
Blue Bird Bus Sales of Pittsburgh in the amount of $64,760 each
for delivery after June 30, 2006, and to be paid from the 06/07
General Fund Budget
·
Approved to amend the 2006/07 I.U. #5 budget to
include $92.09 as the Fairview School District’s share to
provide for a teacher for the vision impaired program
·
Approved the list of personnel matters as well as
the substitute lists
