General Information
Fairview High School provides an educational program which helps its students to develop the academic skills and personal qualities necessary to participate responsibly and intelligently in a democratic society. Our program attempts to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are required for higher education and the world of work. The education which Fairview students receive should enable them to meet and understand the demands of a changing world. The faculty and administration strive to foster a climate in which creativity can flourish. The school encourages students to develop the physical and emotional well-being that will allow them to become responsible parents. The school recognizes its responsibility to strive for effective communication between the school and the community. In addition, Fairview endeavors to foster intellectual curiosity which will continue throughout life.

Fairview High School has a fine reputation for preparing students for success following high school. Fairview graduates are enrolled in a variety of universities or technical schools. Fairview High School has students recognized as commended students by the college board on a continual basis. The National Honor Society is active in the school.

Technology is expanding each year at Fairview High School.  We currently have five (5) computer labs and a bank of computers in the science block. Dedicated Internet access is available to students in the Library/Media Center and throughout the school.

A Student Volunteer Program has been highly successful. Students regularly perform community service as part of psychology, Key Club, National Honor Society, and ecology class.

13 Advanced Placement Courses and 25 honors courses are available for students allowing them the opportunity to challenge themselves and possibly earn credit for college.

Fairview High School offers a wide range of student activities including several athletic teams for boys and girls. District and regional championships have been won in several sports. Students also may participate in band and drama performances. Foreign exchange students frequently are a part of the student body. Our small size allows students to participate in extracurricular activities.  Approximately 75% of our students are involved in extracurricular activities.  The district has an exemplary staff and curriculum development program to enhance instruction for all students.

Boys and girls cross country, boys football, boys golf, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls tennis, girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls swimming, boys wrestling, boys baseball, girls softball, and boys and girls track

Clubs and Organizations:
Music, Speech/Debate, Drama Club, National Honors Society, Literary Magazine, French Club, Yearbook, Academic Decathlon, Student Council, Academic Challenge, Journalism, S.A.D.D., Spanish Club, JETS, Varsity Club, Model U.N., Investment/Entrepreneurship, Library Media Club, Key Club, Science Club.

Curriculum
Fairview High School has three levels of course offerings. All classes meet five days a week for eighty (80) minutes each day.  Students take four (4) courses each semester.

Advanced Placement and Honors programs are designed to meet the needs of the high achieving students. (13) advanced placement courses are available to students. AP courses offered are AP English, AP European History, AP Psychology, AP Calculus, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Art, AP Computer Science, AP French, 
AP Spanish, AP Statistics, and AP American History.

College Preparatory courses are offered and they are designed to meet the standards of college entrance requirements.

Votech
The following are offered in conjunction with other area school districts at the Erie County Vocational School.  Programs include: Auto Body Repair, Automotive Technologies, Carpentry, Commercial Art, Computer Programming, Cosmetology, Electro-Mechanical Technology, Electronics Technology, Commercial Foods, Graphic/Printing Communications, Health Assistant, Machinist-Tool and Die, Maintenance, Masonry, Metal Fabrication, Drafting and Design Technology.

Graduation Requirements
A minimum of twenty-nine (29) credits are required for graduation from Fairview High School. Requirements are established by the Board of Education for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Fairview School District Board of Education. These credits must include the following: 4 credits in Communications, 4.5 credits in Social Studies, 4 credits in Science, 4 credits in Math, 2 credits in Foreign Language, .5 credit in Health, 2 credits in Physical Education, 1 credit in Computer Application, .5 credit in Drivers Education, and 6.5 credits of electives.

Grading
Students are graded on a four-point grading scale. The grades and percentage equivalents follow:

93 - 100% - A - Outstanding
85 - 92% - B - Above Average
77 - 84% - C - Average
70 - 76% - D - Below Average
Below 69% - F - Minimum course standards NOT met

P - Pass  F - Fail  H - Honor
I - Incomplete  W-Withdrawal
M - Medical

Class rank is determined by the number of quality points earned by a student in grades nine through twelve. One gains points by the number of courses and the difficulty of courses the student completes. Quality points are higher for "weighted" courses. Class rank provides and academic comparison for all students within a class. The information is very often required as part of the college admission process. Fairview High School designates courses as "regular" or "weighted" for the purpose of ranking students.

Regional Choice Programs
This Program allows college bound students to enroll in Gannon University and Edinboro University courses at a drastically reduced tuition rate.  Students take two college classes per semester at the Academy of Collgiate Excellence witch is located on the campus of Erie County Tech School.  For more information on the program please see the fallowing page.

Standardized Testing Programs:
The PSAT and NMSQT tests are administered in Grades 10 and 11.  The PSSA Reading, Writing, and Math tests are administered in Grade 11.  The PSSA Writing test is administered in Grade 9.  The PSSA Science, Technology, Environment, and Ecology test is administered in Grades 9 and 11.
