Fairview School Board Briefs For January 8, 2007

BOARD BRIEFS

 

The Fairview Board of School Directors held a public board meeting on January 8, 2007, and took action on the following matters:

 

  • Approved the contract with Sarah A. Reed Children’s Center to provide for an Alternative Education Pilot at Fairview High School .  Of the total cost of the pilot of $29,240.72, $15,000 will be paid from ACCESS funds, and the balance, which is $14,240.72, will be paid from the Fairview High School Librarian Salary Account, and further, that the Fairview School District administration will provide a report and recommendation of the pilot at the May 2007 Study Session.
  • Approved the Facility Use Request from the United Steel Workers to use the Fairview Middle School Auditorium on January 21 or 28, 2007, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. for a contract meeting at a cost of $120 for building rental and approximately $172 for custodial fees.
  • Approved the 2007/08 Budget Act 1 Resolution which states in part:

--The district will comply with the procedures of Section 687 of the School Code for the adoption of the district’s proposed and final budgets, and that the district is not required to comply with the accelerated budget requirements as set forth.

--The district will send a copy of this Resolution to the Pennsylvania Department of Education no later than five (5) days after the Board’s adoption of this Resolution.

--The Board understands and agrees that, by passing this Resolution, it is waiving its right to seek exceptions to the back-end referendum requirements as set forth under Section 333, and that Section 333 of Act 1 does not apply.  The Board also understands and agrees that it is also waiving its right to request approval from the voters through a back-end referendum to approve an increase to the tax rate that is greater than the index as established for the 2007-08 fiscal year.

--The Board understands and agrees that, upon receipt of the information submitted by the District as set forth above, the Pennsylvania Department of Education shall inform the District whether its proposed increase in the rate of the District’s tax exceeds the index, the district shall be subject to the accelerated preliminary budget requirements as set forth.

  • Approved the list of personnel matters.
