PATS Minutes - November 2012

PATS Minutes

Fairview High School

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

The meeting was called to order at 9:05 a.m.

Attendance:  Jacqui Fonticella, Susan McGrain, Chris Nerthling, Kathy Zuraski-King, Deb Hauk, and Mr. Park.

Principal’s Report:

*Mr. Park showed us the academic support site.  Goal is to have 24/7 availability of support and instruction for students.   Also, to eventually have academic support for every text book.

*All freshmen are at the technical school this morning.

*Juniors are working on career ideas for their graduation projects.  They must investigate at least two careers and three colleges.

*Act 26 law relates to reporting abuse.  Everyone (teachers, custodians, cafeteria workers, and volunteer coaches) who has any contact with kids must go through training.

*Keystone exams-This is a transition year.  There will be no more PSSA exams.  All juniors will be tested in two waves in December and May.

*In response to the question of whether or not students have to make up the recent day off due to inclement weather, Mr. Park said students might have to come to school on February 18.

*Prom to Dawn survey-The results of the survey showed that the students had an overall good experience last year.  It was suggested that perhaps students be kept at Prom to Dawn only until 4:30 a.m. instead of 5 a.m.

*PATS would like the membership form on the district calendar to be printable and submittable.   Mr. Park will address the issue along with other problems with the monthly calendar.

*Open house-Technical school had incentives to attend their open house.  It was suggested that maybe we could have a drawing or some classroom incentive in order to entice more people to attend our high school open house.  Discussed why certain teachers don’t come to open house night.

Secretary’s Report:

*The minutes of the October 24  meeting were approved as read.

Treasurer’s Report:

*Opening balance of $11,928.25 with no receipts and disbursements of $239.47, leaving a closing balance of $12,167.72.

*Treasurer’s report approved by motion.

Old Business:

*Prom to Dawn-An ad is being written to solicit volunteers for various committees.

*Jacqui shared the results of the 2012 Prom to Dawn survey.

New Business:

*Angel Tree Delivery-Helpers will meet at 9 a.m. on Friday, December 14 to load cars with gifts and deliver to Emmaus soup kitchen.

The next PATS meeting will be on December 19, 2012.  Meeting adjourned at 10:15 a.m.
