The Fairview School District has two new programs aiming to help students who are facing hunger and food insecurity. We’ve recently partnered with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest PA, bringing the BackPack Program to Fairview Elementary School and the School Pantry Program to Fairview Middle School and Fairview High School. Participating FES students get a bag of nonperishable food privately dropped in their backpacks at school each Friday. FMS and FHS now have food pantries, fully stocked with nonperishable food and hygiene products. Students at FMS and FHS who are enrolled in the program can browse the pantry and select which items they would like to take home each week. Students are able to participate in the programs after being referred by a school faculty/staff member or their family. Once a parent or guardian enrolls their child or children, students can start getting food right away. The Second Harvest Food Bank delivers food monthly, replenishing our pantries and delivering the pre-packed bags of food to FES. We think our pantries look pretty great and have an amazing selection. If your family is in need of food and you think this program is right for you, please reach out to Abby Thomas at 814-474-0550.
