Nine Honors Spanish students spent the day volunteering at the Erie City Special Olympics at Peek n Peak Resort in Clymer, NY. They served as buddies, timekeepers, and art assistants to ninety athletes with disabilities in our Erie area. To see how kind, accepting, and encouraging our students are with their peers showcases the true result of a Fairview Schools education.

FHS PHOTO CLUB met for this fun studio shoot. We wrapped black plastic around a wooden frame and placed it over a speaker. Poured paint on top and turned up the tunes! We stopped the motion by using our Einstein strobe lights.

The CP English IV students started the semester by writing a persuasive essay entitled “Five Things I Know for Sure.” The students defended claims about statements they believe to be true based on their life experiences. The students peer edited their essays and then presented their two favorite claims to the class.

How has Fairview's cultural landscape evolved over the years? This question was answered by guest speaker, Mrs. Quiggle, in the Erie Experience classes this week. The students heard a presentation about Fairview's development on Monday and then toured the area, including Avonia Beach, on Tuesday. The tour involved identifying historic landmarks, the region's agricultural industry and the communities of today.

Students in AP Spanish and Honors Spanish 6 enjoyed language immersion and a culture lab at Mercyhurst University's Day in World Languages. They tasted tea from around the world, decoded French idiomatic expressions, played jian zi (Chinese Hacky Sack), filled their card of Lotería (Mexican Bingo), created memes in Spanish, wrote their names in Russian, and spoke with native speakers, professors, college students, and Fulbright Scholars. Señor Lowe was even able to enjoy some of his favorite Argentinian mate. Fairview would like to say "Gracias" to the faculty and staff of Mercyhurst University World Languages Department for their service to our students.

Mr. Parmeter's class hard at work recording/calculating the probability of rolling two dice. The students will explore both theoretical and experimental probabilities, as well as learn why a certain combination occurs more than another. The students will end the lesson by playing a little game of craps, a game of probability based on rolling the number 7.

Ten FHS students presented their scientific research in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science event held on Jan 27 at PSU Behrend. Students design and conduct an experiment in an area of their interest. They present their findings to judges who then score five components of the presentation and scientific research against a rubric. Some students have or will participate in this from 7th grade through 12th grade. Besides the regional competition, students can also become eligible for scholarships to various science camps and for college tuition scholarships. Congratulations to Quinn, Yatish, Kashyap, Jared, Jocelyn, Ulyana, Amani, Aditya, Cate, and Anish. Each was awarded 1st place for their regional presentation and all are eligible to attend the State Meet at Penn State in University Park in May 2024.
