Students in Mr. Gebauer's 6th grade Social Studies class had the opportunity to virtually meet with PA State Senator Dan Laughlin on November 15th. They have been learning about the legislative branch of government and were very grateful for the opportunity. Topics and questions ranged from campaigns to filibusters to a typical day in the life of a Senator.

Our FHS Economics students visited the Fairview State Fish Hatchery on Lohrer Road. Operated by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Mr. Scott Fedei was kind enough to explain the public good and economic impact of raising and stocking our area's streams, lakes, and ponds. Our students toured the facility and even got to feed the fish. Invasive species were also discussed.

This semester Ms. Borro's College Prep. English I class has been silent reading self-selected novels to start each class period. Students are examining each of their novels for the elements of fiction that have been studied in class. This daily routine encourages each student to read outside of school, and collectively as a class, Ms. Borro and her students have read over 60 books this semester!

This year’s Honors Photo and Photo Two classes were the first to use the new darkroom! They created Photograms by placing objects onto light sensitive paper and exposing it to light from the enlarger. They then developed the paper through the chemical trays. This project opens the door of these students to use the darkroom for future projects.

This year for Veterans Day the students and families of Fairview School District honored Veterans both known and unknown to them with a field of flags displayed outside of Fairview Middle School. Thank you to all the families who supported this recognition with flag purchases and donations. Your efforts raised a $600 donation for the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' located here in Erie. Another thank you to the moms who gave their time and effort in support to this much deserved recognition. To those Veterans remembered in our field of flags, and to all Veterans far and wide, we thank you for your service and your sacrifice not only on Veterans Day, but every day.

Mrs. Iapalucci's Honors English IV classes recently wrote archetypal analyses using the Aristotelian argument structure. They presented their arguments to their classmates, who then voted on which students used the structure most effectively. In period 3, students liked Maddie Weber's the most; she showed how widely different movies and television shows from all genres, such as Spiderman and Gilmore Girls, rely on the coming-of-age situational archetype. Period 4 voted for Micah Humes' essay; he argued how, in The Office, Michael Scott's unchallenged and inappropriate behavior as an archetypal leader proves how toxic work environments can easily arise and harm the people who work in them. Students also enjoyed the presentations by Sofia Ortiz, Olivia DiGello, Grace Goodelle, Piran Jeffery, and Ella Knight!
