Students in Mrs. Jones' Honors Geometry course have crowned the new Most Interesting Mathematician Survivor: John Von Neumann (Cora, Adi, Allie, Ana)! Each week, the students would plan interactive presentations to relay information to prove why their mathematician was the most interesting. Then, a mathematician would be eliminated each week until one mathematician survived. Our runner up group presented on Kaczynski (Sadie, Tessa, Sam, Maddy, Carlo). Both groups did a fantastic job each week!

As the FHS library's resident manga and comics expert, Jordan Hagerty has been instrumental in curating that portion of our collection, which has become increasingly popular with students. Check out the new books Jordan recommends! Also, don't forget that students can always recommend books to add to our collection.

There’s nothing better than connecting our curriculum with our community! Spanish 4 and Independent Study were fully immersed in Spanish for about three hours taking a tour of the Erie Art Museum all in Spanish and learning about their exhibits related to Spanish-speaking cultures then ordering from Dina’s Dominican Kitchen. Thank you to everyone in our Spanish-speaking community (including the person in line who was amazed at how good their Spanish was) for helping us use our Spanish out in the world!

Students in Mrs. Jones Geometry courses learned about the Golden Ratio, a number found in nature, art, and architecture that is supposedly the most visually appealing. Students then measured and calculated which celebrity was the most proportionate to the Golden Ratio. 1.618 is the magic number!

In Mrs. Potocki's 6th grade math class, students simulated the concept of "tag and release," which is used to analyze fish populations. Students marked 50 pieces of pasta, "released" the marked noodles back into their bag of unmarked pasta, and collected samples. Then they used their understanding of equivalent ratios to calculate how many total "fish" were in their "sea" of pasta.

FHS College Prep Chemistry students investigate various types of chemical reactions in Mrs. Magraw’s classes. (Synthesis, Decomposition, Combustion, Single Replacement, and Double Replacement.) Hands on experiences in the lab reinforce and embed our learning. Jayden, assisted by Abbigail, Rebecca, and David take the experimenting just a little further by mixing their own concoction. Science can be fun!
