Although food waste is a huge environmental problem, you are still able to help out and do your part to help prevent food waste from becoming an even bigger problem. From Ms. Turner's 9th grade science class....You can help by only buying or taking what you are going to eat. You can also organize your pantry according to the expiration date, so you know what you have to finish first so it doesn’t go to waste. If you have leftovers, finish them before you cook something new. An extra measure you can take is that you can have a composting bin in your house individually, so instead of throwing food away, you will be able to return nutrients to the soil.

CP Chemistry students have completed several hands on lab experiences thus far in the semester. These examples show analyses of compounds to determine the relative polar/nonpolar/ionic character of substances. The budding chemists also performed reactions from each of the five categories; synthesis, decomposition, single replacement, double replacement, and combustion. These experiences solidify the content and will be part of the students forever memories.

The FHS Ceramic class students participated in a raku firing at PennWest University. We witnessed our pots glowing red at 1500 degrees and set on fire in cans of sawdust. When the lids were put on the cans it created a reduction atmosphere to achieve the signature raku glaze effect we were aiming for. In addition to the firing we toured the numerous art classrooms in multiple buildings on campus, participated in a hands-on activity, and watched a live pottery demonstration. The students gained exposure and experience in what a college art program can offer. What a great day!
