FHS students recently concluded another tax filing season with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. This year, student volunteers processed 52 tax returns for the community. Collectively, these volunteers have dedicated over 200 hours of their time to the community and processed $56,691 in federal returns this tax year. This is Fairview’s fourth year partnering with the IRS to provide free tax preparation to low- to moderate-income taxpayers. To date, Fairview volunteers have filed 228 tax returns, resulting in a significant economic impact of over $273,000 in federal return dollars and filing fees. This year’s top preparer was Na’Zhya, who demonstrated exceptional skills by completing 17 returns. Following closely behind was Anish, who prepared 15 returns, while Vivian rounded out the top preparers with 10 returns.

Mr. Parmeter's Algebra 1 classes are practicing for the upcoming Keystone exams. Along with periodic chapter reviews, keystone worksheets, and practice examples in class, the Algebra 1 students prepare for the test by taking CDT's, which are classroom diagnostic tests. This test tells the students what they know and what they need to work on for the upcoming test at the end of May. The CDT test show the students content the may have missed, done poorly on, or need to review to get a better understanding of the Algebra they need to be successful in the class, on the state test, and for any class they may take after Algebra 1.The CDT is just one of many classroom tools we use to help students better prepare for the test, and the world in which we live in.
