For the last 26 days of school, the kindergarteners have a letter day. May 5th was Letter C (Cinco de Mayo) and May 8th was Letter D (Dino Day). Tacos, pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey, a pinata, digging for dinos, and wearing your very own dino hat...there could be no better way to spend a Friday or a Monday!

A group of 7th grade girls attended Behrend’s Math Options Career Day. They built a bridge out of spaghetti to learn about engineering, heard speakers on being an actuary, and attended the STEM in Action Fair that highlighted the different STEM majors Behrend offers.

FHS experienced a false smoke alarm this afternoon that was caused by dust in the new construction. Our students and staff "held in place" until further instructions were given. Thanks to our monthly drills, and the work of our School Security Team, our students are well prepared under these circumstances.

9th grade Wellness classes learning CPR.

Another amazing experience with a guest speaker for AP Spanish & Culture as we head into exam weeks. Gracias a Jan Stillfried, who spoke to us straight from Santiago, Chile about cultural topics of all sorts, as usual almost all in Spanish. So proud of my students to be able to manage such complex conversations in the language! This is my favorite type of lesson - when I also get to learn so much.

Important Transportation Notice
There is potential for late bus runs for the morning and afternoon of Friday, May 12. We ask that you give a few extra minutes for our buses to pick up and drop off tomorrow.

11th grade chemistry students determined the optimal mole ratios for various chemical reactions by using the method of continuous variations.

The High School Green Team posed a challenge to our Elementary School to see who could create the best robot out of recycled materials. We are so proud of the creativity and the use of recycled materials. James, a 1st grader in Ms. Bann's class won with his remake of R2-D2. Congrats James!

The sophomores in Mrs. Stevens’s Honors English 2 class recently culminating their study of thematic and symbolic elements of Lord of the Flies with a creative representation of their ideas with help from Mrs. Wegner and Mr. Jensen in art, design, and manufacturing, even with some 3D printing in Rylan Wagner’s project!

We are aware of a circulating Snapchat post that contains a threat of violence at a school. Although it doesn't specifically name Fairview (or any local school) we take all threats seriously. Erie Police have confirmed that the threat is a hoax that has circulated in other states in recent weeks.

Fairview School Foundation FHS April Student of the Month

During the month of April, the kindergarten classes completed multiple author studies including, Mo Willems, Laura Numeroff, and Leo Lionni. They used their works to practice making predictions, inferring, cause and effect, making connections, and comparing and contrasting stories. The children also got to try using the varying illustration techniques to create characters from the stories.

Here are some rehearsal shots of one of our two spring plays, “One Stoplight Town”, a play about a small town, not unlike Fairview, that sees new developments and puts a stoplight in the middle of town. Some think the traffic light is unnecessary as “nothing new happens in this town”, but we soon see lots of things happen if we have the eye to look for them. Come support our students in the FHS auditorium at 7:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday. Tickets are $3.

Students getting into the full spirit of their lab work. Katelyn Chase lab coat and all.

Miss Clark's class had a chance to go to Donatos Pizza to see how pizzas are made. They got to make their very own and see them come out of the ovens on the rollers. As you can see, cheese is a big hit!

This past weekend the softball team attended a D1 game at the University of Pittsburgh and got in some training at Diesel Sports Complex in Cranberry Township. The girls have three games schedule this upcoming week. Go, Tigers!

Using Spanish within our community! District employee, Atalia Hammond came to Spanish club last week, and our AP Spanish class this week to speak with us fully in Spanish about her beloved Puerto Rico and culture. ¡Mil gracias Atalia!

Congratulations to our first scholarship winner of 2023, Jared Gennuso. Jared received the Fairview Community Council Scholarship this afternoon at their May meeting. Jared's essay, based on the District's theme, Do All Things With Love, was selected among dozens of qualified submissions. Great job, Jared!

Is there a better day in gym class than parachute day? Most of our students have never had the chance to experience Parachute Day in gym class due to Covid. The sounds of laughter, fun, and joy that were coming from the gym last week were pure awesomeness!

For the first time this semester, Chopped Chefs has two winners! The meals were so great that our panel of judges couldn’t decide. The first group, Caleb Szklenski, Breanna Heidt, McKenna Koca, and Evan Bartley prepared Pasta with a Creamy White Bean Sauce. The second group, Caiden Hermann, Shreya Sreehesh, Mikaela Nagle, Ananya Desireddi, and Josiah Walker prepared Taco Twist Soup. Great job to our winners!
