Mrs. Iapalucci's Honors English IV classes recently wrote archetypal analyses using the Aristotelian argument structure. They presented their arguments to their classmates, who then voted on which students used the structure most effectively. In period 3, students liked Maddie Weber's the most; she showed how widely different movies and television shows from all genres, such as Spiderman and Gilmore Girls, rely on the coming-of-age situational archetype. Period 4 voted for Micah Humes' essay; he argued how, in The Office, Michael Scott's unchallenged and inappropriate behavior as an archetypal leader proves how toxic work environments can easily arise and harm the people who work in them. Students also enjoyed the presentations by Sofia Ortiz, Olivia DiGello, Grace Goodelle, Piran Jeffery, and Ella Knight!
Students in RMU Statistics class played “shuffleboard” to visualize the many probability concepts involved in sports, games and life in general. After playing a tournament they listed examples of 17 probability terms from the game (random phenomenon, trial, Law of Large Numbers, independence, etc.).
The Speech & Debate season got off to a great start for Fairview on November 1 at the first CFL of Erie tournament of the season, which took place at Cathedral Prep.
Lucky Aaluri took first place in Declamation. He was followed by Anish Pabbati in second and Yatish Seelam in 3rd. Hannah Nichols finished in a first place tie in OI with Bhavani in third. Peter took first place in Extemp. In Congress Shaheer took first place Shaheer Essa and Emily Gravelle, who served as Presiding Officer, placed 4th.

Fairview’s Model United Nations team competed successfully at Gannon University earning the Excellent Award for a large school delegation! Congrats to individual award winners as well! As a school, we placed 3rd, behind Collegiate and Fredonia. Lucky Aaluri, Ananya Desireddi, Theo Nacopoulos, Tommy Nacopoulos, Christos Pappas, Yatish Seelam, and Pranay Gollu won committee awards. The students in Mrs. Stevens’s CP English 2 class analyzed the characters and lines from Shakespeare’s play The Merchant of Venice, described the scene, and dramatically read the lines to the class.
Miss Miele’s CP English IV and AP Language students visited Mr. Barbour in the library to learn how to use the Gale in Context Databases to find quality research to support their research-based analysis essays. The CP students researched information on the 1920s and 1930s to connect to their analysis of allegorical elements in John Steinbeck’s “The Turtle,” while the AP students researched information to support their persuasive essays on topics of their choice related to issues in education.
