On Friday, Chopped Chefs made hors d’ oeuvres! Our winning group was 2 members down, but was still able to create a delicious dish! Sean McShane and Walker Scobell pulled off the win with Buffalo Chicken Puff Pastries!

Erie Experience classes enjoyed a hike through Asbury Woods to see the Grandmother Maple tree this week. The tree is one of the original trees left from when the land was originally a farm during the 1800s.

The Erie Experience classes got a behind the scenes tour of Waldameer and a courtesy ride on the new, Time Twister, thanks to Brian Gorman. The classes then went to Sara's for lunch and took a ride down to the Perry Monument.

Data Science with Sports students participated in a variety of athletic challenges for an Ultimate Athlete Field Day. Students then used Python, Pandas, and data science skills to analyze the data and develop a formula to determine the Ultimate Athlete in the class. Check out the photos to see the results!

Erie Experience classes explored the Fairview Cemetery and the Old Almshouse Cemetery off of Blair Road last week. The students learned about the history of both and discussed the importance cemeteries to communities.

The Erie Experience classes took a tour of the Erie Cemetery today, exploring the famous and historic tombstones throughout. The second part of the field trip took the classes on a walking tour of Millionaires' Row, finishing inside the infamous Strong Mansion; now Gannon's admissions building.

Join us on May 10th for the annual FHS Photo and Art Exhibition at the 1020 Collective. This showcase of honors art students will start at 7pm and go until 10pm. There will be live music, food, basket raffles, and 50/50 tickets to enjoy while browsing the gallery full of amazing student artwork. We hope to see you there!

Physical Science students conduced a variety of experiments to enhance their understanding of waves in different media. In one of the last activities they determined the speed of light by microwaving marshmallows. As a nice reward, they also made s’mores.

Congratulations to Jabin Bull for advancing to the PMEA All State Wind Ensemble. Jabin competed against the top 10 high school trumpet players in the state and finished 2nd overall!!!! The festival was held at the Kalahari Resort, Poconos, PA in mid April.

The Fairview high school ceramic students went on a field trip to PennWest University’s Ceramics department. They participated in a raku firing, a tour of the art department, grad student demonstrations, and a hands-on art project. It was a magical day with wonderful people.

AP Seminar students completed the last part of the course's Performance Tasks this week. After working as a team to identify a problem, they individually researched specific lenses and perspectives of that problem and evaluated the best solutions to present to their peers. Next up: the AP Seminar Exam!

The Erie Experience courses took a class trip to Pleasant Ridge Park this week. The students hiked the trails and explored the new additions to the park. The students have been learning about the importance of community parks and ways that communities can feel connected.

Fairview High School's Band Director and Music Teacher, Mr. Chad Mummert, recently received the PMEA Citation of Excellence. He received the award while attending the PMEA State Conference April 9-12 in the Poconos. PMEA's state president, Brett Keith, presented Mr. Mummert with the award. Mr. Mummert has taught his entire career (26 yrs) at Fairview High School teaching Concert Band, Jazz Band, Instrumental Methods, Music Technology, Music Theory I and AP Music Theory, among many other music courses over the years. He just completed his tenure as the Immediate Past President of PMEA District 2. Congratulations Mr. Mummert!
