They tasted tea from around the world, decoded French idiomatic expressions, played jian zi (Chinese Hacky Sack), filled their card of Lotería (Mexican Bingo), created memes in Spanish, wrote their names in Russian, and spoke with native speakers, professors, college students, and Fulbright Scholars. Señor Lowe was even able to enjoy some of his favorite Argentinian mate. Ten FHS students presented their scientific research in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science event held on Jan 27 at PSU Behrend. Students design and conduct an experiment in an area of their interest. They present their findings to judges who then score five components of the presentation and scientific research against a rubric. Some students have or will participate in this from 7th grade through 12th grade. Besides the regional competition, students can also become eligible for scholarships to various science camps and for college tuition scholarships.
Congratulations to Quinn, Yatish, Kashyap, Jared, Jocelyn, Ulyana, Amani, Aditya, Cate, and Anish. Each was awarded 1st place for their regional presentation and all are eligible to attend the State Meet at Penn State in University Park in May 2024.
