Mr. Barbour served as a guest speaker in Mrs. Nies's law classes this week. The students received a lecture in the library on the Supreme Court and some of the most monumental cases ever heard by the Court.

26 calculus students from FHS attended the 8th annual Differentiation Bee at Gannon University. FHS students competed against calculus students from other school districts for a chance to win scholarships and other prizes.
Mrs. Heitzenrater’s Financial Literacy classes have been working on career research and projects. They are looking up the job outlook across the United States to find where jobs are more available for that field. They are looking up the cost of the education and skills needed for their career choice.
Students in Mrs. Karpinski's CP English 1 class are using the various techniques and strategies of persuasive, expository, and reflective writing as they compose their final essays for their nonfiction unit.

Students in the upper level French courses have been reading "Le Petit Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. They also had the chance to act out chapters 10-15.
Ms. Turner's ninth grade environmental science students moved with teams through a variety of stations to review biomes.

Aditya Turaga and Bhavani Devineni carefully adjust the temperature of a water bath to study the effect of temperature on enzyme activity. Gurjap Singh and Amani Thomas use Vernier LabQuest interfaces and spectrophotometers, purchased with the help of the Fairview School Foundation, to measure the rate of enzyme activity.
Mrs. Nies's Law courses recently heard a presentation from local defense attorney, Breyton Graves, who works for Sebald, Hackwelder and Knox. Attorney Graves spoke about his educational background, the legal process and his real life courtroom experiences. The students found the presentation engaging and interesting!

Class champions for the BSL this week, Hockey, Gator Ball and Pickleball.
Mrs. Fair’s 10th Grade English class combined their ELA and engineering skills to create forts that could withstand the elements on the island in the novel Lord of the Flies. Students used textual evidence to both build their forts and design the tests necessary to determine if their huts could withstand the harsh elements on the island. Students designed tests for sand storms, earthquakes, rain, wind, rock slides, and possible attacks from the island beast using simple materials like spray bottles, kitty litter, rocks, and a fan.
