
Triangles were the answer to the STEM Lab that students in Mrs. Jones' Geometry classes completed this week. Their task was to build a structure using 15 gummy bears and 20 toothpicks to hold a textbook for 3 seconds. Only 1 group was able to figure out that triangles are the strongest structure for building!

Miss Miele’s AP Language classes participated in fishbowl discussions to practice their own usage of rhetoric while analyzing topics related to education in American high schools.






Students in Mrs. Stevens’s CP English 2 class had fun learning Greek and Latin roots using a memory game.





Students in Current Events, Government, and A-PUSH gathered in the library to listen to a joint presentation from Mr. Barbour and Mrs. Nies on the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The students connected the lecture to the current situation in the Middle East.

The FHS Spanish Club joined Fairview township’s Fall Festival at Pleasant Ridge Park this past Sunday. We shared Peruvian hot chocolate (gracias Julia Ochalek!) and had coloring pages representing the Mexican culture of Día de Muertos.

Thank you to Dan Pastore and Nick Taylor for our Honors Economics tour of Fish USA. A Fairview based business that ships fishing supplies and equipment world wide. Part of our investigation into local economic activity, we are focusing on the Outdoor Sports industry. People from around the world come to fish the waters of Fairview and the north shore of Pennsylvania. Our tour included a stop at Avonia Beach to see the mouth of Trout Run and to see the fish running up stream.

It was a great day at the Slippery Rock for the World Language Competition. Congrats to all who participated and especially our award winners! 3rd place Spanish (level 3) Corbyn Pontier. French level 1: 2nd place Masa Alkhudari; 3rd place Parker Harvey. French level 2: 1st place David Adiska; 3rd place Kate Granger.






Can you say "yo gané"? Señor Lowe's Spanish 1 class has been "muy ocupado" this week, learning about the articles and grammatical gender and number through La Lotería, a Bingo-style game popular throughout Mexico. They have also been practicing their pronunciation and fluency through the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish and the National Anthem of Argentina. There was also a surprise visit from Profe's Spanish 4 class, who came to demonstrate their self-written scenarios of a visit to the doctor. Remember, "si no sanas hoy, sanarás mañana!"





Ninth grade environmental science students did water quality testing on campus. They measured pH, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity. They also sampled macroinvertebrates to see how organisms were affected by the water quality.





Chris Krahe, Senior Director at S&P Global Ratings, met with Intro to Business students to share his experience with the company. He also talked about what makes a successful pitch and examples of corporate quarterly reports.


Ms. Nelson’s American Studies 9 students spend time in the new FHS library! Mr. Barbour assisted students in utilizing online databases and print resources to research Gilded Age innovations that continue to impact today’s world.
