While some students might not like doing guided reading....however, leave it to Miss Glennon to make it fun for them! Students were practicing their guided reading using fun witchy fingers! Who wouldn't like doing mandatory school reading with a cool, green finger with a bright red fingernail? We love how our SEL teachers pull out all the creativity and use all the tools in their toolboxes to make learning fun for those who might not find it so fun!

Dr. Horn's favorite day of the whole year is Talk Like a Pirate Day! It is the one time of year that he gets to use his much-beloved pirate voice all day and make any teacher walk the plank for not indulging his piratey character! ARRRGGG!

The FES library hosted a PAPA GENRE'S Pizzeria in the library last week for 3rd and 4th graders. The students each received a menu and visited three different pizza tables where they "sampled" different books within a particular genre. They kept track of which books and genres they liked in their menu. The kids discovered new books and genres throughout the activity. Everyone left full of new books and a thirst for different genres. That's Amore!

In 4th grade science, students were able to design and create personalized constellations using foam boards, flashlights, and fiber optic wire. What a great way to learn about the constellations.

Miss Glennon's kiddos made self-portraits and practiced their writing and spelling skills by telling everyone about some of their favorite things. Their self-portraits are spot on!

Some might think that 2nd grade is just all fun and games....and they would be right! Here our students are playing the Doubles Plus One math game. Students have to roll the dice, double the number that it lands on, add one then cover up that number on their sheet. What a fun way to get kids engaged in math!

And the theme for the 2023-24 school year is...Be the One. This theme comes from the quote, "Be the one who nurtures and builds. Be the one who has an understanding and a forgiving heart, one who looks for the best in people. Leave people better than you found them”

It is in 4th-grade science class that our students get to learn more about the different habitats; how they are formed, their differences, and the species that live there. In these lessons, they get to dig deep into the different types of birds and each student gets a chance to pick 1 bird to learn more about. To make the lesson extra special, Dr. Bookhamer uses his magical skills with the 3-D printer and makes replicas of these birds. Dr. Bookhamer made 156 3-D birds!

As an end-of-the-year project, our 3rd-grade ELA teachers and our librarian work with all of our 3rd-grade students to create a Wax Museum. Each student is responsible for researching someone of significance (past or present), completing a display board that tells about the lives of their person, and then memorizing any pertinent information about this person. On Wax Museum Day, family members come and the students stand as wax figurines until they are approached. They then come to life, reciting the life information they have memorized. As you can see, we have a wide range of characters, from Wayne Gretzky to Michael Jackson and Andy Warhol.

Every year the 1st graders have a farm week. They get a chance to learn all about farm animals! They also get to participate in the Penn State Embryology program. They successfully hatched 4 baby Leghorn chicks. The students loved watching them hatch and grow! They also got to meet and pet Mrs. Farrar's baby goat, Lucy. The best part came on Friday when Dr. Horn brought in Cooper the mini horse for the kids to feed and pet! By far the best week ever in 1st grade!
