Physical Science students with Mrs. Magraw determined the speed of light by heating marshmallows in a microwave. The distance between the hot spots is half the wavelength of the microwaves. With some calculation, the speed of light can be determined since all electromagnetic waves travel at the speed.
After the an error analysis was complete, the students were rewarded by being allowed to make microwave s’mores. Yum!
Students created and observed temperature driven currents in environmental science class to better understand climate and weather.

Erie County Technical School's Students of the Month
Mr. Parmeter's pd 2/pd 3 Algebra 1 students taking the CDT test for the second time to prepare for the upcoming Keystone Exam. The second test shows a students growth for the past year while also pinpointing areas to work on. After the break, Mr. Parmeter's students will be finishing up the second quarter working on their individual areas of need while preparing to take the Keystone test as well as some Algebra 2 concepts.

Mrs. Fair’s sophomore English class built cardboard masks symbolizing events, themes, and ideas from William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. After creating their masks, the students conducted research on the symbols they chose and wrote an essay analyzing how their symbols connected to the novel.
Jeremy Lightner, Assistant District Attorney, returns to his alma mater to speak to Mrs. Nies' current events class and Mr. Barbour's government class. Attorney Lightner discussed his job, the legal system, and the details of several contemporary criminal cases in Erie.
Advanced Placement US History students read sources and analyze US post World War II culture through the creation and sharing of posters.
Dr. Mansour from Mercyhurst University visited Mrs. Nies's Law courses this week to discuss the rise of cyber crime and the importance of protecting oneself in the cyber world.
Using equipment purchased with a Mini Grant from the Fairview School Foundation, Sofia Ortiz, Hannah Lindenberger, and Isabel Owens use a miniPCR thermocycler to make copies segments of DNA. Parinita Satheesh and Lola Post load copied DNA samples into a blueGel electrophoresis chamber. The finished electrophoresis gel showing the results of their experiment testing for anitbiotic resistance.
Students in Statistics class tested each other for “psychic ability” by seeing if they could read each others mind by guessing the symbol their partner was focusing on. They took the results, used probability, and performed a Hypothesis Test at the 10% level of significance. We found a few “psychics”.
